Meaning
Cha Cha Cha is a team golf game in which each player plays their own ball, but the number of scores counted for the team changes in a repeating pattern. The usual pattern counts the best one score, then best two, then best three, before starting again.
How it matters in match play
Cha Cha Cha is normally a team Stroke Play game rather than a standard match-play format. If two teams agree to play it as a match, they can compare each team’s rotating hole totals, but that is a house arrangement: settle in advance how a hole is won, halved or conceded, and how handicap strokes are applied.

Worked example
In an illustrative four-player team, Alex, Ben, Chris and Dana score 5, 6, 7 and 8 on hole 1, so the best one gives a team total of 5; scores of 4, 5, 6 and 7 on hole 2 produce 9 from the best two; scores of 5, 5, 6 and 7 on hole 3 produce 16 from the best three.

Common questions
How does Cha Cha Cha scoring work?
The common version counts the best one score on hole 1, the best two on hole 2 and the best three on hole 3, then repeats that 1-2-3 cycle through the round. The selected scores are added to make the team total.
How many players are in a Cha Cha Cha team?
Three or four players are the practical standard because the format’s 1-2-3 cycle needs at least three scores to use its full pattern. Clubs and software may permit other team sizes, so confirm the event instructions before play.
What handicap allowance should Cha Cha Cha use?
There is no single universal Cha Cha Cha allowance. The Committee should state the allowance in the Terms of the Competition; a club example uses 85% of Course Handicap, while the USGA table gives different recommendations for defined formats such as Four-Ball and Best 2 of 4 stroke play.
Is Cha Cha Cha the same as Best Ball?
It is a rotating team variation that uses best scores, but it is not the same scoring pattern as a format that counts one fixed number of balls on every hole. Agree the pattern and team size because local versions can differ.
Is Cha Cha Cha governed by a specific Rule of Golf?
No specific Rule of Golf defines this casual game name. The Rules of Golf may govern the underlying play when adopted by the Committee, while the scoring cycle, handicap allowance and settlement are competition or house terms.
Can Cha Cha Cha be played with Net Score?
Yes, an event can use Net Score, but it must specify the handicap method and stroke allocation before play. Do not assume an allowance from another team format applies automatically.
