Meaning
Double Press is a house-rule betting label, not a defined Rules of Golf term. In a Nassau or similar side game, it usually means opening a second press while the first is still running; some groups instead use it for a press at twice the original stake.
How it matters in match play
In match play, the trailing side may agree to a Double Press when it falls behind in an existing press, commonly by two holes. The new bet starts from the agreed hole and runs to the end of the relevant nine, while the original match and earlier press continue. Confirm whether your group means a second concurrent bet or a doubled stake, and whether presses are optional or automatic.

Worked example
In a $5 Nassau, Alex is 2 down after hole 6 and opens a $5 press for holes 7–9; after falling 2 down in that press on hole 8, Alex and Ben agree that a Double Press starts on hole 9 for another $5, so three separate $5 bets are settled independently.

Common questions
Is Double Press an official golf rule?
No. It is a casual betting label, not terminology in the Rules of Golf. The players must agree the trigger, stake, start hole, end point and whether the bet is a second press or a doubled stake before play.
Does a Double Press replace the original press?
Usually no. In the common second-press interpretation, it adds another separate wager and the original bet continues. Some groups use the words differently, so write each live bet and its stake on the scorecard.
How much does a Double Press pay?
There is no universal amount. If the agreed meaning is a second press, it commonly carries the same stake as the original, but a group may agree to a different amount. Settle each bet separately rather than assuming the base stake has changed.
