Meaning
A Crossover Start schedules groups from both the first and tenth tees. After nine holes, each group continues onto the other nine. Organisers must reserve suitable gaps in the tee sheet so groups do not conflict at the turn.
How it matters in match play
Crossover Start does not change match-play scoring, handicaps or the result: it only changes where and when groups begin. The Committee should tell each side its starting point and starting time, and players must begin from that assigned teeing area; the match then follows the normal hole order and Rules of Golf.

Worked example
For an illustrative 8:00 am Crossover Start, Alex and Ben begin on Hole 1 while Chris and Dana begin on Hole 10; if the organiser allows two hours for nine holes, both groups turn at about 10:00 am and the intervening tee times are blocked.

Common questions
Is a Crossover Start the same as a Shotgun Start?
No. A Crossover Start normally sends groups from Holes 1 and 10 at scheduled intervals, while a Shotgun Start sends groups to many starting holes at the same time. Both are event-scheduling methods, not separate scoring systems.
Does a Crossover Start change match-play handicaps?
No. The starting arrangement does not set a Handicap Allowance or assign Handicap Strokes. Apply the competition's published handicap method, then use the Committee's Start List and starting time for the logistics.
Why are tee times blocked during a Crossover Start?
Groups starting on Holes 1 and 10 eventually reach the turn from opposite directions. A gap or closed tee sheet gives them room to cross from Hole 9 to Hole 10 and from Hole 18 to Hole 1 without colliding with new groups.
